Ermanno Nason Biography
Ermanno Nason, born in Murano in 1928, comes from a family of renowned glass masters. From a young age he entered the furnace and obtained the title of master at just 18 years old. He immediately demonstrated authentic talent, particularly in the execution of human and animal figures. From 1952 to 1957 he was a "first place master" at Mazzega, and then opened his own furnace and collaborated for a few years with his brother-in-law Scarpa in VAM. From 1964 to 1972 he worked at Cenedese and from 1973 to 1992 he founded "Arte Ermanno Nason". His fame is closely linked to the collaboration with the "Centro Studi Pittori nell'Arte del Vetro", founded in 1951 by Egidio Costantini and subsequently called "La Fucina degli Angeli" at Cocteau's suggestion. This center involved the main artists of the time, asking them for drawings and projects to be made in glass in Murano. His expertise in "massello" workmanship, achieved in those years, pushed him to appreciate large sculptures, reinterpreting Michelangelo's various Pietàs, the soft forms inspired by Henry Moore and the astonished faces of Campigli in a bold and modern way. In general, he is fascinated by the rich range of styles of the 60s. As a good "Murano native", who sees in every form and subject an irresistible challenge, a peak to be conquered to prove to himself and others that he is the best, Ermanno threw himself into his work with enthusiasm and courage, proposing such a variety of works to leave us today amazed by his insatiable curiosity and extraordinary vitality.
