Eleuterio Pagliano Biography

Eleuterio Pagliano was born on 5 May 1826 in Casale Monferrato, in the province of Alessandria. He was a well-known Italian painter, portraitist and engraver, with a neoclassical and romantic artistic style.
From his youth, he demonstrated remarkable artistic talent. In 1836, at the age of just ten, he was admitted to the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under the guidance of the famous painter and engraver Luigi Sabatelli.
He served as a volunteer during the Five Days of Milan in 1849 and participated in Garibaldi's campaigns. His military experiences have influenced his artistic production, focusing on historical and patriotic themes.
In 1850, he settled in Milan and began exhibiting his paintings at the local art fair. He became friends with Domenico Morelli, who introduced him to the Lombard artistic community. He produced many paintings, frescoes and works, receiving prizes and recognitions such as the gold medal won in Paris in 1878.
Eleuterio Pagliano died in Milan on 5 January 1903.
