Riccardo Pellegrini, born in Milan in 1863, in addition to studying in the Milan of Romanticism, frequented both Rome and Naples, where he followed the lessons of Domenico Morelli. He traveled extensively throughout Europe, visiting countries such as England, France and Spain. Spain in particular was an important source of inspiration for his paintings of Spanish rural scenes but also for his activity as an illustrator, where he created drawings for the main magazines of the time. He illustrated works such as “Don Quixote by Cervantes” and “Gil Blas” by Alain-René Lesage. He created various subjects for postcards, which today become collectible works. His works are currently present in the museums of Novara, Berlin and Stuttgart. Pellegrini died in Crescenzago, Milan, on 31 March 1934.
