Penck AR (Dresden, 1939) Penck was a self-taught painter. He exhibited for the first time in Dresden and Berlin in 1956 and in the early 1960s he created an immediate and summary style, depicting stylized characters with signs, symbols and archaic images. He worked in collaboration with artists such as G. Baselitz and J. Immendorf and had a great influence on the younger generation of artists of the German Democratic Republic, also through the organization of performances and exhibitions in contrast with official art. In the 1970s he began to devote himself to sculpture and from 1989 he taught at the Kunstakademie in Dusseldorf. He has exhibited in international exhibitions and in various collective and personal exhibitions.
