Domenico Piola (Genoa, 1627- Genoa, 1703). His work as a painter took place in Genoa where, after collaborating with Valerio Castello, he became his successor. This artist is considered the greatest interpreter of the decorative works that took place in Genoa towards the second half of the 17th century: all the important families, such as the Doria, the Spinola, the Balbi, commissioned his workshop to decorate their palaces. The chosen subjects are the stories of classical heroes, ancient emperors and mythical allegories aimed at exalting the virtues of the clients themselves.
