Poggi Biography
The Poggi family's carpentry tradition originates with Luigi Poggi, who during the last century operated in a carpentry workshop in Pavia. In the 1940s, his son Carlo Poggi, born in 1896 and deceased in 1949, converted the laboratory into a factory located in the historic center of Pavia. In 1953, the brothers Ezio and Roberto Poggi moved the activities to a new structure specially designed and built on the outskirts of Pavia. These same buildings, recently renovated, now constitute the headquarters of the new "Fabbrica Poggi" project. At the beginning of the 1950s, the Poggi brothers met the architect Franco Albini for the first time. Albini's collaboration with the Poggi brothers began by perfecting previously conceived projects, with the aim of reaching series production, which was carried out in the new factory. The first pieces, the result of this collaboration, were presented at the Mostra del Mobile Single, set up at the 'Gold. The exclusive relationship with Albini ended at the end of the 1960s. Around 2005, Roberto Poggi, who was already eighty years old at the time, stopped production activities. In 2010, the Poggi company closed permanently. Starting in 2022, the Poggi company spaces will be repurposed as a place to host a permanent collection and events in the fields of design, architecture and art.
