Tommaso Porta was born in Brescia in 1686 and was an Italian painter. His teacher was Pieter Mulier, known as Tempesta, and he was an important representative of the Venetian landscape artistic movement of the eighteenth century. Porta painted Arcadian landscapes with bright colours, focusing on details such as turreted farmhouses, herds accompanied by shepherds, shepherdesses and travellers, villages and ancient buildings, farmers on the shore of a lake, bridges thrown across small rivers and in the background the blue of the Pre-Alps . He designed groves, representing men hunting bear or playing ball. In addition to medium and large-sized oil paintings, he also decorated the walls and ceilings of eighteenth-century Venetian villas and palaces in fresco. Tommaso Porta also painted biblical scenes from the Old Testament, now preserved in museums and churches. Tommaso Porta died in Verona on 30 April 1768.
