Francesco Pozzi was born in 1779 in Portoferraio and was an Italian sculptor. From 1807 to 1816, Pozzi attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. In 1816, he obtained a scholarship in the city of Rome and during this period, he had the opportunity to work closely with important artists of the time, such as Canova, Thorwaldsen, Landi and Camuccini. The neoclassical style characterized his artistic production, making him become a renowned sculptor. His reputation was demonstrated by the numerous prestigious commissions he received, including those for Prince Borghese and the Bourbons of Lucca. In 1823, Pozzi obtained a position as a teacher at the Academy of Florence, where he passed on his artistic experience to future generations of artists. Pozzi died in Florence in 1844.
