R. Mangiarotti & A. Arico' Biography

Raffaella Monica Mangiarotti (1965 - ), architect, designer and creative director, was born in 1965. She graduated with honors in Architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan in 1991 with Tomàs Maldonado and in 1994 obtained a PhD on the themes of design for environmental or on environmental impact of complex industrial products. At the same Polytechnic, since 2001, she has been a researcher and teaches Industrial Design and Design for Fashion. In 1995 he met Matteo Bazzicalupo in the editorial staff of Modo magazine and after a few years of individual experiences he decided to found Studio Deepdesign with him in 1999, an innovative design reality in various fields: from food packaging to consumer electronics, from furniture to cosmetics . The studio's activity is recognized in its functional and sustainable approach. In this direction they have created projects and designed products for companies and organizations such as: Barilla, Brevi, Castelli Haworth, Coca Cola, Turin 2006 Olympic Games Committee, Coop, Daimler Chrysler, Fratelli Rossetti, Giorgetti, Glaxo Smithkline, JVC, Kitchen Aids, Kraft Suchard, Imetec, Inblu, Mandarina Duck, Misuraemme, Nec, Panasonic, RSVP, San Lorenzo, Whirlpool Europe. In 2010 he founded the Raffaella Mangiarotti studio where he specialized in furniture design, art direction, showrooms and exhibition stands, and activating collaborations with international brands. She was art director of Serralunga (2010-2015), Manerba (2014-2018) and IOC (since 2018). Some of his products are exhibited in museums and are part of permanent collections as well as being published in numerous books and magazines. The Dandelion lamp is part of the Design and Architecture collection of the MoMA in New York. The Triennale di Milano dedicated the solo show “The Sensible Soul of Things” curated by Cristina Morozzi (with Electa catalogue) to her activity. She has received several international awards: she was awarded in the Young & Design competitions (1996, 1997,1999, 2000), Cosmopack (1995, 1996), Esaedro (1997), ID Award (2004), Selezione Compasso d'Oro (2005) , the Green Dot Award (2009). In 2017, 2018 and 2021 she was appointed Ambassador of Italian Design in the world.
After graduating from the Polytechnic University of Milan and the Alta Scuola Politecnica, Antonio Aricò studied metal and jewelery design at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Scotland, product design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia and traditional furniture design in Spain. As a member of Deepdesign Studio, Antonio has worked for the Barilla Group, Nivea Beiersdorf, Lavazza, Serralunga and Skitsch. In 2010 he participated in the exhibition "L'Anima Sensibile Delle Cose" at the Triennale Design Museum. Since 2011, Antonio has focused on his personal projects and collections, cultivating only a few professional relationships with large Italian clients. Always working and playing, Antonio has developed his strong passion over many years and has already been exhibited around Europe, in Germany at the DMY, in Italy during the Salone Del Mobile in Milan, in Turin for the WABI SABI fair, in Poland in the Design Centrum Kielce ceramic museum and in France at the Maison & Objet, for one of his collaborations with Seletti.
