The Ottens brothers, Reiner and Joshua, headed the successful printing company of the same name that operated during the 18th century, originally founded by their father Joachim. Their business was started in 1726 with the publication of maps and other prints as "R & I Ottens". They specialized in reprinting works, particularly by Guillaume De L'Isle. In 1750, Reiner died and his son, also named Reiner, took his place, but the firm began to market itself as "Joshua & Reiner Ottens".
