Gerrit Thomas Rietveld (Utrecht, 1888- Utrecht, 1964). During his career he dealt mainly with architecture and design, applying the ideas expressed by his compatriot Piet Mondrian to these areas. The principles he uses are those of neoplasticism such as the asymmetric geometric phase shift and the search for formal dialogue between volumes and primary colours. He worked mainly in Holland, in Utrecht in 1924 he designed the Schröder House and between 1931-1934 the "Row-Houses"; in 1954 the Dutch pavilion for the Venice Biennale; in 1965 in Otterloo the Rietveld pavilion in the garden of the Kroller-Muller museum and in Amsterdam in 1973 the Van Gogh museum. It also deals with the production of furnishings and furniture including the "Red and blue" armchair in 1918, the "Zig Zag" in 1932 and the "Divan Tafel" table in 1923.
