James Riviere Biography
James Rivière, stage name of Vincenzo Teora Rivière, is an Italian artist, designer and jeweler born on 7 December 1949. Rivière emigrated to Milan, where he attended Industrial Start-up courses and subsequently the Castello Sforzesco Art School in Milan, during one of the most culturally fervent periods that the Lombard city experienced after the Second World War. He undertook his studies under the guidance of Giacomo Benevelli, drawing inspiration above all from the works of designers and artists such as Bruno Munari and Luigi Veronesi. At just twenty-five years old, Rivière was appointed honorary professor for a seminar on metal plastic forms at the University of Gdańsk, in the faculty of artistic sculpture and design. In 1977, he participated in the establishment of the Orafo Design Center in Milan. In 1978, he founded the first jewelery design seminar at the Higher Institute of Design. A significant phase of his work is represented by the introduction of titanium, offered in a vast range of color variations, combined with gold and pearls. Rivière focuses his attention on the decorative and symbolic qualities of semi-precious stones, corals, amber and pearls, presenting unique or limited edition pieces in the Milanese ateliers. Since the autumn of 2002, it has also offered silver sculptures and art objects.
