Romanelli Giovanni Francesco (Viterbo, 1610-1662) Giovanni Francesco Romanelli was an Italian artist. He was a pupil of Pietro da Cortona and obtained a prestigious artistic debut as an assistant in the decoration of Palazzo Barberini in Rome. He was introduced into a group of artists, supported by Pope Urban VIII and his nephew, Cardinal Francesco Barberini, who assigned Romanelli several commissions in many palaces and churches in Rome and the Vatican. The artist was characterized by having adopted a classicized version of the Baroque style of his Roman master and during his stay in Paris he received many commissions for the decoration of the National Library and the summer apartments of Queen Anne of Austria.
