Tommaso Rues, born in 1633 in Brunico, was a very talented Italian sculptor. At the beginning of his career he worked as a carver in the workshop of Giovanni Hach in Venice, where he remained for about eight years starting from 1650. His artistic activity was characterized by the creation of numerous works of great value, including those present in the Church of Santa Maria della Salute, of the main altars of the Redentore and of San Pantalon and of the figures sculpted on the facade of Santa Maria del Giglio. Tommaso Rues died in Venice on 27 December 1703.
