S. Bascherato Biography
Stefano Baschierato, born in Celeseo, a hamlet of Sant'Angelo di Piove (Padua), on 14 April 1922, obtained a diploma from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in 1941, after having attended the wood carving school at the Pietro Selvatico Art Institute of Padua. From 1936 to 1941, he exhibited in various Italian art cities, obtaining some recognitions, including first prize at the "Ludi dell'arte" in Padua in 1936 and first prize "Sculpture for young people" at the Venice Biennale in 1940 .
In the period 1941-1942, Stefano Baschierato carried out teaching activities at the School of Wood Art in Ortisei. In 1979, he completed his first monument, dedicated to "Blood Donors", which was placed in the square in Vigonovo (Venice). Five years later, he donated one of his sculptures to Pope John Paul II, receiving in exchange a certificate of esteem and gratitude. In the following years, he created numerous other monuments and organized personal and collective exhibitions in various Italian cities and abroad.
Baschierato died on 28 July 2000 in S. Angelo di Piove di Sacco.
