Sabatini Biography

Lino Sabattini was born in Correggio on 23 September 1925. During his childhood, his family moved to Blevio, a small village on Lake Como. At the age of fourteen, Sabattini found work in a shop in Como specializing in the production of poor quality brass objects. Now thirty years old, Sabattini decides to leave Blevio to move to Milan, where he sets up a small laboratory in a basement, equipped with the essential tools to carry out his work. In Milan, Sabattini met Gio Ponti, with whom he developed a solid friendship characterized by important milestones: participation in the Milan Triennials and the Venice Biennials, publications in the best international magazines and personal exhibitions in Italy and abroad. In 1956, Sabattini presented the "Como" service at the "Forme ed idee d'Italia" exhibition in Paris. From 1958 to 1963 he worked both in Paris and Milan for the famous Christofle design house. In 1964 he decided to move to Bregnano, a small town located between Como and Milan. Here he began to develop his ideas, his sensitivity and his diversity in an entrepreneurial way, which have no place in the contemporary productive world. Thus Argenteria Sabattini began to take shape, where it created silver shapes with a more transparent and refined design. Sabattini wins numerous awards for his innovative creations, including the prestigious Compasso d'Oro in 1979 for the "Eskimo" silver-plated ice bucket.
