Ulrico Schettini Biography

Ulrico Schettini Montefiore, born in Castrovillari in the province of Cosenza in 1932, moved to Pesaro to study painting and ceramics at the city's School of Art, where he created some interesting ceramics. After completing his studies, and after having worked at the "Molaroni" factory for the production of artistic ceramics, in 1950 he founded the "Ceramica di Urbino" factory with Athos Tombari, Paolo Sgarzini and Gramaglia from Faenza, which remained active until 1953. He subsequently moved to Rome and worked for short periods at some of the city's brickyards. After a short while he abandoned ceramics and, in London, opened a studio of artistic stained glass windows and frescoes. Thanks to the success achieved, he opened another studio in New York where he was entrusted with some artistic professorships in various American and English universities and colleges. Since 1980, having returned to Italy, he teaches Decorative Art at the Macerata and Milan Brera Academy, alternating his teaching activity with stays in Peru for iconographic research on Inca ceramics.
