Sesto Fiorentino Biography
Between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the first artisanal ceramic companies were established, often founded by former painters and modelers of the Richard Ginori Manufacture, who continued an old-fashioned tradition in these workshops. Some of these companies, whose productions have been rediscovered in recent decades, are now considered one of the most significant expressions of Italian ceramics of the last century. In the '20s and '30s, when the ceramic sector of Sesto Fiorentino went through a period of expansion, the SACA factory, the Alma factory, Barraud, Messeri and C, and the factory Carraresi and Lucchesi. Nowadays, almost 40 companies continue the ceramic tradition of Sesto Fiorentino, based not only in the city itself, but also in the neighboring municipalities of Calenzano and Campi Bisenzio, where some companies have moved in recent decades.
