Francesco Spizzico Biography
Francesco Spizzico, born on 20 July 1910 in Bari, was a multifaceted artist, specialized in ceramics, painting, sculpture and graphics. In 1939, in collaboration with his brother, he opened a ceramic factory in Piazza Ferrarese in Bari where they dedicated themselves to painting, decorating mosaics and producing ceramics. From 1953 to 1975, he held the role of teacher at the School of Ceramic Art in Bari, dedicating himself to teaching and, again in 1953, he participated in the exhibition “Art in the life of Southern Italy. Exhibition of figurative and applied arts of southern Italy" at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome with the painting "Still life in the mirror". In 1962 he participated in the Ceramics Competition organized by the Faenza Museum and in 1965 he obtained the Award from the Ministry of Industry, again at the Faenza Competition. Inside his studio, he hosted the "Free Association of Pugliese Artists" and managed the "La Vernice" art gallery in Bari, which was a true point of reference for the artistic experiences present in the city. Some of his ceramics have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, XXIV and XXV editions and at the Rome Art Quadrennial. Francesco Spizzico died in Bari on 10 October 1981.
