Steinlen Théophile-Alexandre (Lausanne 1859 - Paris 1923), draftsman, engraver and painter, in Paris from around 1880, naturalized French in 1901. He collaborated with A. Bruant on the Mirliton (1885-97) and on various satirical newspapers; in 1910 he was among the promoters of the Journal des Humoristes. A designer with a narrative and lively style, he was also a skilled lithographer. He is above all known for his incisive drawings (partly in the Louvre) which focus on the outskirts of the big city.
