Domenico Vantini, born in Brescia in 1765 and died in the same city on 22 June 1825, was an Italian painter active in the neoclassical period, mainly in Brescia and Mantua. Vantini learned his first pictorial notions from Sante Cattaneo. Subsequently, he moved to Mantua under the guidance of Giuseppe Bottani, the director of the Royal Academy. Vantini was known for his portraits and miniatures, but there are few references to his work. In particular, only about twenty oil painting plates are known, including the portrait of Canova and the portrait of a young Ugo Foscolo. However, as regards the miniature, there is news of only five examples, of which four are in a private collection and one at the University of Brescia. We know that Vantini had a great passion for painting and for collecting paintings and art objects. Finally, he died in Brescia on 22 June 1825.
