Frans Vervloet Biography
Frans Vervloet (Mechelen, 20 January 1795 – Venice, 1872) was a Belgian painter, remembered above all as a landscape painter. His father, Frans Vervloet I, was also a painter, professor at the Mechelen Academy; it was he who taught his children the rudiments of the art. In 1822 the young man made a trip to Italy, residing mainly in Rome but also visiting Campania. Starting from 1824, he settled in Naples, where he carried out his business. In 1832 he went to Venice and was fascinated by it; Venice and Naples remained the cities he loved most throughout his life. He travels a lot and portrays in his works, beyond Venice and Naples, Palermo, Livorno, Constantinople, Gaeta, and various areas of Puglia. In 1861 he settled permanently in Venice where he died at the age of 77.
