Emilio Vitali was born in Milan on 5 July 1901. He began his studies with prof. Rapetti and then continued with Alciati and finally followed a long internship under the guidance of Andreoli. His career began in 1929 - the same year he was present at the Brera Biennale - and in 1930 he was already at the Venice Biennale. In 1933 he held his first solo exhibition at the Pesaro Gallery in Milan, and in 1935 he participated in the Quadrennial in Rome. After the last war he dedicated himself to landscape, which he alternated with portraiture with the same passion. His closeness to the world of music led him to portray famous opera figures, including Carlo Galeffi, Franco Corelli, Renata Tebaldi, and Cesare Siepi. For the latter he also designed some stage costumes for Mozart's Don Giovanni. He kept his studio in Milan and worked for a long time in various Italian cities and abroad, preferring Venice and Burano. He particularly loved his beautiful Villa “Oleandra”, his childhood home, and every summer, with his family, he punctually returned to Laglio, offering his friends his cordial hospitality. In the Sixties he was very favorably criticized by Orio Vergani and Giorgio Nicodemi. He died in January 1980.
