Adolf Wildt Biography

Adolfo Wildt (1868 – 1931) was a sculptor and designer. Considered by many art historians to be an artist of great importance, his works are little known to the general public.
His sculptural art starts from the romantic background of the late nineteenth century, and is then influenced by the Secession and Art Nouveau, characterized by complex symbolism and an almost Gothic definition of its forms. The extreme smoothness of the marble surfaces gives his busts an absolute purity and a plastic integrity that he always tries to reconcile with a strong dramatic feeling and an almost paroxysmal intensity.
Thanks to the generosity of the Marquis Raniero Paulucci of Calboli, his friend and patron, a significant corpus of his works is present in the Civic Museums of Forlì: “Fulcieri Paulucci de 'Calboli” (1919), “Santa Lucia” (1926), “San Francis of Assisi” (1926), “Mask of Pain or Self-Portrait” (1908-1909), “Lux” (1920), “The Holy Fountain” (1921), “The Protection of Children or Pargoli” (1918). In 2012, the city of Forlì dedicated an important exhibition to Wildt.
