Lot 178
Representation of the recovery of classic stylistic features typical of the 1920s and 1930s in Italy, the conception of this pair of obelisks is attributed to Marcello Piacentini, the main architect of the Ventennio and creator of some of the most important Italian rationalist complexes, including the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana at EUR in Rome. Piacentini himself claimed to have designed the pair of obelisks, made on the occasion of the marriage of Count Galeazzo Ciano with Edda Mussolini in 1930 (verbal indication of the property, direct affirmation of Marcello Piacentini at the time when, after the war, it was Professor of Urban Planning at the Faculty of Architecture at "La Sapienza" University in Rome).
