Important silk and thread carpet. China, Qing Dynasty, late 19th century.
Probably an imperial carpet made of silk and gilded metal threads at the end of the Qing era. It is sumptuously decorated with nine five-clawed dragons chasing flaming pearls among the clouds; at the sides are elegantly stylised mountains. The scene is framed by a series of borders, the outermost representing a rainbow, the innermost depicting clouds and stormy waves.
