Georg Anton Heinz, born in Svitavy in 1698, was a Baroque sculptor active in the Central and North Moravian region. Heinz spent his childhood and adolescence in his city of origin, although the sources available regarding this period of his life are scarce. However, it is known that he learned the art of sculptor and carver in Jan Sturmer's workshop. Despite his considerable artistic abilities, Heinz received relatively few commissions, due to his complicated and irascible personality. In 1753, Heinz decided to enter the Dominican monastery in Znojmo as a lay brother. He created numerous works, including single sculptures and groups of complete sculptures, both in wood and stucco, for a variety of ecclesiastical buildings. Heinz died in Znojmo on May 22, 1759.
