Emilio Rizzi Biography

Emilio Rizzi (Cremona, 1881- Brescia, 1952). His artistic training began in 1895 in Milan where he enrolled at the Brera Academy and followed the courses of Vespasiano Bignami, Giuseppe Mentessi and Cesare Tallone. In 1899 he was qualified to teach drawing, a profession that would occupy him for most of his life. Thanks to a scholarship, he perfected his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome where he frequented Antonio Mancini, the artists Dazzi, and Biazzi, the sculptor Zanelli and where he held a course of lessons. The Roman period is characterized by a focus on pointillist painting. He began a wandering in the provinces of Lazio during which his passion for rural and mountain landscapes was born. His stay in Paris began in 1909 where he had the opportunity to exhibit several times at the Salon des Independents. In 1910 he obtained a gold medal at the 1st Art Exhibition of Cremona and in 1911 he participated in the International Art Exhibition of Rome. In 1913 he was awarded "The Academic Palms", the highest artistic recognition for foreigners. The Parisian period marks a particularly important moment in the career of the artist who developed his own personal style and who mainly dealt with portraits of French ladies. From a technical point of view, the final color is given by the intersecting of several brushstrokes and the underlying design is very refined. His stay in Brescia began in 1921 where he continued his activity as a portraitist, improving himself more and more, especially in the delineation of the psychological features of faces. From 1927 to 1930 he spent a period near Venice where he was able to find new inspiration for his works, in which lagoon views and fishermen appear. The last period of his career took place in Franciacorta where the artist found new subjects for his works. Emilio is among the founders of the Bresciana Artistic Academy of which he becomes an honorary member and in which he sets up his latest exhibition.
