Pino Usicco Biography
Pino Usicco began his career in the field of interior design as a young man, creating his first projects in Venice in the 1958-60s. At just seventeen, he has already accumulated five years of work experience in the field, thanks to the introduction of his father Leone, a building contractor. At the same time, he worked as a draftsman and designer for various architectural firms. After moving to Rome, he collaborated with the Sais firm of specialized architects and engineers and with Sciolari lighting from '61 to '62. Subsequently, he completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and Venice.
He began his professional career as art director for Società Veneziane Conterie Spa from '66 to '67, after winning a competition. In '68, he worked as a designer at Vistosi. Subsequently, he became the founder and president of several companies, holding the role of project manager and art director of communication for industrial, planning and publishing groups from '69 to '09. Throughout his career, he has received national and European recognition and awards for product design, editorial design and advertising film design. He has also participated in national and international competitions.
Starting from '70, he worked as an art director and photographer, creating advertising campaigns and reportages, among which the dramatic one of the earthquake in Friuli in '76 stands out, the first photo shoot with helicopter shots. He created numerous graphic-editorial products, including "Stelle sui Occhi" for LuxOttica in '74, "Publiepi 50 anni" in the '80s, "Royal Copenhagen" in '85, "Titanus History of Cinema" in '86, " Giò Ponti for Coliseum" in '87, "Il Borghese" in '94, "Fiat 75 anni" in '95 and "Giotto for the Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo" in '96, just to name a few.
He has also acted as an event manager and coordinator, designing setups for events and trade fairs around the world for high-profile communications companies. He continues to work as an interior designer, creating numerous projects starting in '67. Currently, he holds the role of project manager consultant. Some of the products he designed in '74 are still in production and, with some "mischievous" variations, copied and distributed all over the world.
