Libero Vitali was born in Venice, in 1928, into a family of glass artisans; in 1947 he moved to Milan but continued to attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, albeit occasionally; after various work experiences (however linked in one way or another to the artistic field) in 1958 he approached the problems of advertising graphics; in 1962 he took part in a collective exhibition in Paris at the "Espace Gallery", where he met Marc Ghagall for the first time; in 1963 he created sketches for posters and won first prize in the "European Poster Competition"; in 1964 he held his first Milanese exhibitions at the Accademia and Lux Pilastro galleries; the following year he was in London, where he held a solo exhibition at "The Lincoln Gallery" and took part in a collective exhibition at the "O'Hanna Gallery"; in 1965 he exhibited at the Amel gallery in New York; in 1969, in Rome, he met Repaci, Pasolini, Volpini, Blasetti and Zampa and began studying plastic materials to address the phenomenology of costume in a "total" way; the following year, again in Rome, he held an exhibition on cinema themes at Palazzo Sciarra and in 1971 he exhibited paintings and sculptures at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni; in 1974, in Paris, he presented a solo show at the Mouffe Gallery; in 1976 he executed a large painting on the themes of accidents which was presented at L'Umanitaria in Milan and then destined for the Chamber of Labor in Naples; in 1978 Paolo Levi presented an exhibition of his paintings and glass sculptures at the Milanese gallery "Il Castello".
