Auction 365 | AFRICA, OCEANIA & AMERICA - ARTE AFRICANA Traditional
Lot 72
Like the Ashanti Akua'ba, the Mossi fertility dolls are the most synthetic and stylized archaic African sculpture has been able to generate artistically to represent a woman. A cylindrical body with hints of breasts and navel on which rests a circular head thick with incised hair and evident ears that limit the triancolare face. Eyes, nostrils and mouth are perfectly resolved by four holes and an engraved line, scarifications a little everywhere.
So much play and time have definitely worn this doll and the left ear lobe has suffered a break and is missing. Like to think that a caring father has restored the aesthetic order of things by puncturing again the injured ear, for new earrings to the doll and a new smile to the baby.
