AUCTION 273 - FINE DESIGN - DESIGNCRACY
Lot 691
LT8 sky earth lamp, for Tecno, Italy, 60s. Bent metal, extruded aluminum, neon.
Present in the furnishings chosen by Osvaldo Borsani for the "Pavilion for the exhibition of furniture in series" he designed and created for the 15th Triennale in 1954 as a specific exhibition space for the newly born Tecno. In model, in those years very innovative in the Italian context, it is probably inspired by the diffused light lamp on vertical full height upright, designed by Gilbert Rohde in the early forties and published in the book The lighting of the house curated by Luigi claudio Clerici for the Domus publishing house in 1946. The type of luminaire designed by Borsani uses a neon tube, so it has an obvious transformer on the lower part. In 1957 the design of this luminaire was deposited by Tecno SpA as an ornamental and utility model to the Patent office (release 09/11/1957, No. 64737) with the following description "Lighting device with fluorescent tubes on a support-diffuser orientable around a longitudinal axis.
