Qur'an with papier machè binding over gold ground Persia, Qajar, 19th century
Arabic manuscript on paper composed of 342 folios and 2 fly leaves. Text written in black ink in single colomn of 12 lines to the page separated by golden roundels. Drop shaped illuminated section marks. Double opening page finely illuminated with golden arabesques over blue ground. Refined papier maché binding with flowers over golden ground and calligraphic cartouches containing verses from the Qur'an to the edges. Small paper restorations.
